Grateful!

Memorial Day is often celebrated with family events, time to relax, barbecues, and outdoor fun.

I, too, take advantage of the three-day weekend to enjoy family and fun.

But, please join me in setting aside at least a few minutes to remember how we have the freedom for this enjoyment.

Our freedom came at a price. A dear price.

According to the Department of Defense and the Department of Veteran Affairs, the total number of Americans killed in all U.S. wars is more than 1.1 million.

  • million times, a mother lost a child.

And, in some large percentage of these deaths, a spouse was left widowed, a child lost a parent, a best friend was lost.

Huge voids.

And we reap the benefits.

Think of this—especially this weekend.

Each time you see the flag.

When you spend time with a friend.

When you laugh.

When you are free to spend your days as you choose.

All of this was bought with a huge price.

1.1M lives.

Thank you for the families who lost loved ones so I can be free.

Thank you to all who served.

I am grateful.

Let’s never forget.
