All Saints’ Day! Remembering Those Who Came Before Us

Today is a day that is often overlooked on our calendars–but one that we should spend at least a few moments considering –All Saints’ Day. All Saints’ Day is a day to reflect on those who have been members of the faith, who have gone before us. In the Catholic Church, the focus is first on those whom the Pope canonized as “Saints” and then on Christians who have died but await the resurrection.

For many Protestants, All Saints’ Day is set aside to remember Christians who have died–those well known, and those who impacted our lives on a personal level.

Join me today in reflecting on those Christians who are no longer physically present, but who made a difference in our lives.

For me, today, I think of C.S. Lewis and the impact his writings, novels, and children’s stories have had on me and my whole family. I am thankful for the life of Corrie Ten Boom and the message of her dedication to Jesus–even in the most difficult times, the sacrifice she and her family made to save the lives of Jews during WWII, and the way she truly became a “Tramp for the Lord,” spreading the message of the Gospel for the rest of her life.

On a personal level, I am grateful for my grandparents who lived through challenging times, kept their faith, and taught those who came after them of the importance of staying close to God. And, I am grateful for Sister Kevin, the leader of an organization I served for 23 years.

Which Christians made an impact on your life?

All Saints Day – let’s remember and honor those who shined the light of Jesus in their own lives–and helped us keep our light shining!

Good bless!
